Dear Hiring Department,
As a masters of architecture thesis candidate at Miami University’s School of Architecture, I was delighted to see your opening for an architectural intern in Denver. I am seeking a full time position as an architectural designer/intern starting mid June with a variety of opportunities to help advance my career and facilitate my path to licensure. My previous education and architecture experience has greatly contributed to my excellent creativity, design modeling, and teamwork skills, among others, and I know I have the skills and knowledge required to be a strong asset at your firm.
With more than 6 years of educational experience in architectural design, I bring to your team a trained eye for detail, 3D and physical modeling, and graphic art. I also have a keen sense of green aesthetics, as evident from my certification in Passive House design as well as my thesis exploration in reinventing materials with a focus on a greener concrete. Upon graduation I also have plans to take the LEED Green Associate exam by the end of the academic year.
During my education, I learned and developed many skills and abilities which would carry over well into my experience with the landscape firm EDGE LA. During my internship I was actively advancing my skills in photo-realistic renderings using Adobe Creative Suite, single-handedly modeling entire city streets in SketchUp, and was solely responsible for updating the entire detail library in AutoCad used throughout the company and all of its locations. EDGE awarded me with the opportunity to accelerate my learning in both technical design and 3D modeling but also such soft skills such as time management, task completion, and communication. One of the most rewarding projects I worked on at EDGE was the streetscape modeling I did for downtown Toledo, in which the project was a street renovation. I had the opportunity to render the entire street as well as model the facades of the surrounding buildings. My favorite aspect of this project is being able to see the renders up on local news channels, for there is no greater feeling than seeing work come to fruition.
As my hard work shows, I am very proud of the work that I do. I have an unending passion for both architectural and graphic design and strive to marry the two alongside my pre-existing skills and talent with 2D media in all of my design work. If awarded the opportunity to showcase myself at your company, I will come with that same work ethic and motivation.
I would appreciate an opportunity to talk with a member of the HR team to see how my experience and skills could benefit your firm. Thank you for your time and consideration, I will be in contact again soon. I look forward to speaking with you in the near future.
Sincerely,
Sydney Randolph
